July 2019 Meeting Minutes

The BGALA July meeting was hosted by Holiday Inn University Plaza on Tuesday, July 9, 2019.

Treasurer report from Alisha Dalrymple: BGALA current account balance is $22,000, and not all dues have been paid. Expenditures for July were $75 at Lunch Pail for the board meeting lunch and $1,000 for the Lost River Cave butterfly habitat sponsorship.

ATTRACTION REPORTS:

CVB: Janet Henderson reported that Beth is offering a VETTE tourism and hospitality free training class for any frontline staff on July 17 at 10am at the Bob Kirby Library. Please RSVP to beth@visitbgky.com by July 16 with names of those attending. If you have a group of 10 or more employees that would like to schedule an on-site training, please contact Beth. Janet has Summer 2019 rack cards to distribute for anyone who needs in their brochure racks or at their front desks. CamaroFest is this weekend and more than 3,000 people are members of the group. Please remind your front desk staff to track room nights as best as possible since the CVB sponsors this event and uses room nights to track future sponsor monies. Please remember to track Tri-Five in August too.

Sloan Convention Center: Zach Phelps reported. CamaroFest is hosting an opening reception on Thursday night. The official parking lot opening party is Friday night at HIUP and about 700-800 cars are expected. Caravan is coming up and will be very busy. The new Kentucky Maternity & Kids Expo will be at Sloan on September 22.

Lost River Cave: The cave’s annual fundraiser, Get Down, is coming up July 27. Individual tickets and tables are still available for purchase. Gift shop coupons are available.

Historic RailPark & Train Museum: Paige Rogers reported the inaugural Wine Festival is this Saturday. Tickets are $20 online or $25 at the door. A dozen Kentucky wineries will be represented in partnership with the Kentucky Winery Association. The Bingo at the Depot event has been rescheduled to September 19. USO Bowling Green tickets are still available for ONLY Thursday and Saturday nights (August 29 and 31), as Friday August 30 has sold out. This is the RailParkā€™s annual fundraiser. Tickets can be found here. The RailPark is offering Unseen Bowling Green Downtown Haunted Walking Tours and the special Pauline Tabor 21+ Unseen Tour.

National Corvette Museum and MSP: Kenzie Layton introduced herself as the new Group Sales Coordinator at the Motorsports Park. The go-karts are now open later on Friday nights and they have a Corvette fleet for hot laps. Katie Ellison reported Caravan registration ends this Sunday and she is sending out one more e-blast with reminders and hotel availability. Jefferson Starship is performing August 29 and tickets are $25 online. There will be no hotel shuttles for Caravan this year. Katie introduced Dr. Sean Preston, the new President/CEO of NCM. Sean is a Charlotte, NC native who officially started July 1.

Beech Bend Park: No report.

NEW BUSINESS:

Dharmi set up the Walk to End Alz link for the BGALA team and sent to members. Please sign up and encourage your staff to participate. If you have any fundraising ideas for the Hospitality Heroes team, please let Dharmi know.

Lost River Cave will host a private butterfly release event for BGALA members as a thank you for the sponsorship. It will be held Saturday, August 17 at 3pm. Please RSVP to Lost River Cave if you plan to attend.

The next meeting will be held Tuesday, August 13, at Staybridge Suites.
