The BGALA November meeting was hosted by the Hilton Garden Inn on November 10, 2020.
Alisha Dalrymple was out, so Kacie Hood reported our only expeditures in the past month were the membership lunch at the RailPark, the Vid Monster PSA project, and the board member lunch.
CVB: No report.
Sloan Convention Center: No report.
Lost River Cave: Maegan Williams reported. Boat tours are still happening, with a max of 35 people, tours running 9:30am-5:30pm. The Scarecrow Trail was great this year and thanks to all who participated. LRC estimates about 20,000 people walked the trails in October. The Reindeer Encounter event is scheduled for December and will be different, with social distancing and limited tickets. Sponsorship opportunities are available starting at $100 and Maegan has packets available. The Snow Flurry Scurry 5K in January will be a virtual race this year, with runners submitting their times all week. Last year there were 300 runners and the cave already has registration open.
National Corvette Museum: Katie Ellison reported. The museum is still seeing about 80% of attendance compared to a normal year. Online Corvette store sales are up. The museum has two positions open: Director of Finance and Director of Philanthropy. The MSP has a new Executive Director who starts in January, with a background in working at Disney and Great Wolf Lodge. The Ambassadors Convention is in town this week. Please let the museum and MSP know if you are offering any hotel packages or special offers with Twinkle at the Track. The museum has been pitching the idea to visit the museum and drive Twinkle, then stay the night, to Corvette Clubs for the holiday season.
NCM Motorsports Park: Taylor Howard reported. Twinkle at the Track tickets for hotel frontline staff are ready for pickup here, plus the yard signs and buttons for frontline staff to wear at the desk inviting guests to ask more about Twinkle at the Track. Visit twinkleatthetrack.com for more info on the various theme nights and special events. This is the last weekend of the motorsports racing season, which will be closed until March. The Corvette lap opportunities start again in January after the Twinkle lights come down. The weekends of racing season are all booked for 2021. The Crawl Course is still being worked on, after feedback received from Jeep Club members. The course was promoted at a Jeep Nationals event.
Historic RailPark: Jamie Johnson reported. The Unseen Bowling Green tours this year were the most successful to date–raising $20,000 for the RailPark. Thank you to BGALA for sponsoring. The Wine Dine Crime event is this weekend, where the Cemetery Road Murders author Wes Swietek shares more about the book. Tickets are $15 and available online, and include a Murder Burger from the new food truck Atomic Burger. Polar Express will be taking place in-person, with RailPark members having ticket access first. The park expects maybe 1,000 people to be able to attend this year, compared to a usual 4,000. The Landmark Association usually has a Christmas tour of Homes every December, but since it’s not having an indoor display in homes this year, it’s hosting an exterior Christmas Lights display all over town. The RailPark will be participating in the lights display and the Landmark Association will be promoting the locations on this tour. The RailPark has made the front page of the Daily News three times in the past month and the most unusual of them all was the large donation of train slides from an enthusiast. More than 1,000 train photos were donated and the museum is seeking volunteers to view and organize them to work on a slide presentation that can be part of the museum’s offerings. The RailPark has a new development officer/fundraising position available.
Beech Bend Park: No report.
Bowling Green Hot Rods Baseball: No report.
Mid-South Conference: Eric Ward reported “We’re just trying to make it to Thanksgiving.” Golf event a couple weeks ago went well.
The elections are up. Jeff Anderson declined an at-large position nomination, and Dharmi Shah was elected to keep the at-large position seat. Michael Nunn was elected President-Elect.
The Vid Monster PSA projects and WNKY/WBKO promotions are still running all month. The WNKY promotions continue into January.
BGALA Christmas Party will be December 8 at NCM MSP at 3pm. If you want to participate in a Dirty Santa type game, please bring a gift valued $15-20. The Twinkle at the Track will be open for driving thru the lights.
